I have been focusing on making Christmas cards over the last few weeks. I donate 300 cards each year to a local skilled nursing facility. My dad was there and I remember seeing so many lonely souls each time I would go to visit him. These poor people had no family to visit them and were crying out for attention. After my dad passed away, I made it my goal to donate Christmas cards to each resident of the facility to bring them a spark of joy during the holidays. This will be my sixth year doing this. It brings me so much happiness, just knowing they have a little something to open on Christmas. I try to make many different cards, including non-traditional cards. I also include cards for those that may not celebrate Christmas.
For this week’s video, I made a colorful Christmas card using some very non-traditional colors. I used Simon Says Stamp’s “Triangle Blast” stencil and Ranger Distress Oxide sprays in Mermaid Lagoon and Picked Raspberry to create my background panels. While I set my panels aside to dry, I pulled in some Bristol Smooth water color paper. I sprayed the water color paper with water and then sprinkled on some Nuvo Shimmer Powders in Atlantis Burst, Cherry Bomb and Violet Brocade. Once the shimmer powders were dry I heat embossed various Christmas trees from Simon Says Stamp’s “Festive Trees” and Color Me Trees” stamp sets. I used SSS clear embossing ink and white pigment ink and covered the ink with Brutus Monroe Alabaster White embossing powder. I then used the coordinating dies to cut some of the images and and fussy cut the rest. I cut the background panels using the largest Scallop Rectangle die by Pink and Main. I was having so much fun and was excited to see the end product. I stamped my sentiment on the background panels (using my brand new Original Misti) with Versafine Clair Nocturne ink. I then arranged the cut images on the panel and adhered them using Art Glitter Glue and Simon Says Stamp foam tape. I added a finishing touch by putting a few enamel dots on the panels and layering the panels onto some colored card stock. Once that was done, I glued by layered panels to a card base and voila…my cards were complete. I really liked how the turned out with the beautiful pinks and purples. What do you think?
