I work on Christmas cards throughout the year in order to get the 300 I need for my annual donation to a local skilled nursing facility. My father used to be at this facility and I every time I would visit him, I noticed how lonely many of the residents looked. After my dad passed away, I thought a good way to honor his memory would be to give some cheer to the residents of the facility. For this batch of cards, I thought I would give making slimline cards a try.
I began by using “Home for the Holidays” hand crafted coloring book. I flipped through the many pages of the book and settled on the page with the giant Christmas bow on it. I decided to color the page using my Prismacolor colored pencils. I colored the large bow a few shades of red first and then smoothed out the pencil lines by using Gamsol. I followed this with coloring the stripes different shades of green and the larger stripes gold. Again, I used Gamsol to smooth out the coloring lines.
Once I was finished with coloring the page, I cut it down to fit on a slimline card. I went on to die cut a Merry Christmas sentiment using dies made by Birch Press Designs (Merry Sugar Script & Christmas Sugar Script). I cut the sentiment four times from black card stock and stacked them to give the sentiment some dimension. My wonderful grandson appeared at this point to give me his input on how I should make the card. I felt the sentiment could use some sparkle to I used my Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen to add some shine. Once this was complete, I added the sentiment to the card panel. I still felt as thought he card needed more, so I pulled out some of my Doodlebug Matt Sprinkles in black and placed a few of them on the panel as well. Of course, they needed to sparkle too, so I used my Sparkle pen to add more shine. I then cut some black card stock from my stash to layer behind the colored panel. I layered the panel onto the black card stock and then added it to my card base. I was happy with how this card turned out, but wanted to see if I could make a quick card using part of the cover from the Home for the Holidays coloring book. I cut part of the cover, which had silver foiled images and a holiday sentiment on it. I then used some silver washi tape from my stash to put behind the panel. This second card came together in just five minutes. A quick and easy slimline card was a great way to round out this set of cards.
