Gimme Some Sugar

I finally broke my 2020 resolution and bought some new crafty supplies. I ordered the Simon Says Stamp July 2020 card kit and am loving everything in it. I wanted to use some of the elements from the kit to make a couple of summer themed cards. I have a hard time cutting into any Doodlebug paper, especially when I only have a few sheets of it on hand. With this in mind, I decided to use the stamp set to make my own patterned paper for these cards.

I started by stamping some images from the Sugar Pea Designs “Pucker Up” stamp set. I stamped them on watercolor paper using Versafine black ink and embossing them with Simon Says Stamp Fine clear embossing powder. Once the images were embossed I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers (light blue, light carmine, cornflower blue) and a Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen (moonlight) to color the images. While the images were drying, I pulled out the solid stripe image from the Simon Says Stamp “Hello Sunshine” stamp set and placed it in my Original Misti. I then repeatedly stamped the image on some white cardstock in order to create my own yellow/white striped paper (just like the Doodlebug paper).

With my background panel complete, I cut it out using the Pink & Main Scallop Rectangle Die (largest die) and also took my stamped/colored images to my Brother Scan N Cut to cut them out. I then selected some solid red colored cardstock from my stash and cut it to 4.25″ x 5.5″ to use as a mat for my stamped panel. I layered the stamped panel on the red cardstock and then added a 3″x3″ piece of the blue polkadot Doodlebug paper as the background for the images. I added the images to the blue paper using my Art Glitter Glue for two of them and some Dollar Tree foam tape for the third image. I then cut out the sentiment I wanted to use and attached it to the card. I then added my card panel to a card base. I repeated this process for the second card, using a light blue cardstock for the mat. I really liked how these two bright and cheery cards turned out. I will definitely be sending them to a couple of friends this week!
