Well, it finally happened…my stash of birthday cards has been depleted. My kids (all adults by the way) are always going into my stash to look for cards for their significant others and friends. So when I went to look for a birthday card last week, much to my surprise, they were all gone. This meant one thing…time to make more birthday cards!
First I made a card for my youngest daughter’s birthday since that is what I went into my stash for to begin with. That card (and the empty stash) inspired me to make more cards.
I began by pulling out my Distress Ink cubes (Picked Raspberry, Candied Apple, Carved Pumpkin, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, Mermaid Lagoon and Wilted Violet) to ink blend over some stencils. The stencils I chose to use for these cards were by Simon Says Stamp (Triangle Blast & Polka Dot Party) and by Create A Smile (Scattered Hearts). I used white Recollections 65 lb. cardstock and cut the panel down to 4.24″ x 5.5″ before attaching each panel to a stencil. Then I let the blending begin. I just love how the rainbow of colors looked on these panels. I then cut down each panel so I could mat it on some black Recollections 65 lb. cardstock. The black border really makes the rainbow of colors shine. I then used a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp’s “Sweet Birthday” and “On Edge” stamp sets and heat embossed them on black cardstock using Simon Says Stamp Clear Embossing Ink and Brutus Monroe Alabaster White Embossing Powder. Once I had my sentiment strips cut down, I attached them to each panel using my ATG gun and SSS foam tape. I pulled in some stickers from my stash of Doodlebug stickers for a couple of the card panels. I also added some cute Doodlebug stickers to the inside of the cards. Once I thought the cards were done, I took a step back and decided they needed some bling. So I pulled out some Simon Says Stamp sequins that I had in my stash and sprinkled them on the cards.
I’m pretty pleased with how these cards turned out. I’m off to make another dozen to refill my magically disappearing stash. Thank you for continuing to support my ever changing crafty venture.
